AxeDB's guitar market indexes are designed to answer that question without being fooled by sales mix. A raw median can jump because more expensive guitars happened to sell. These indexes compare similar Fender and Gibson pricing segments through time, so the chart is closer to a market movement signal than a simple average sale price.
The broad market index combines major Fender and Gibson electric model families. The vintage index is restricted to pre-1980 instruments, while brand-specific pages focus on Fender or Gibson alone.
