Built on sold prices, not wishful thinking
AxeDB tracks the guitar market continuously: over 350,000 verified Fender and Gibson sales since 2015, from Reverb completed transactions plus sold records from vintage dealers and auction houses. Each estimator is a machine-learning model trained on its own segment of that data, because a 1959 Les Paul, a Murphy Lab reissue, and a Player Stratocaster trade in what are effectively three different markets. Every estimate shows its comparable-sale count, and each tool documents its own accuracy openly in its methodology section — including where the data runs thin.

What data are these estimates based on?
Over 350,000 verified guitar sales from 2015 to today, drawn from Reverb completed transactions plus sold records from vintage dealers and auction results. We track the sale price, not the asking price — asking prices routinely run 10-25% above what sellers actually accept.
How accurate are the estimates?
It depends on the guitar. For common modern instruments with a clear product tier, the typical estimate lands within about 15-20% of the real sale price. Vintage instruments are harder — condition, originality, and authenticity move prices a lot — so treat the range, not the midpoint, as the answer. Each tool publishes its own accuracy numbers in its methodology section, and every estimate shows how many closely comparable sales back it.
Which guitars are covered?
Fender and Gibson, in five segments: original vintage Fenders (1950-1980 Stratocaster, Telecaster, Jazzmaster, Jaguar, and student models), original vintage Gibsons (1950-1980 Les Paul, SG, ES series, Firebird, Flying V, Explorer, and flat-top acoustics), Fender Custom Shop, Gibson Custom Shop and Murphy Lab, and modern production guitars from 2000 onward. Squier, Epiphone, and other brands aren't covered yet.
Is this a formal appraisal?
No. These are data-driven market estimates for informational purposes — useful for sanity-checking a price before you buy or sell. For insurance, estate, or authentication purposes, get a written appraisal from a certified appraiser or a specialist vintage dealer, especially for anything potentially worth five figures or more.
Why is a sold price different from an asking price?
Sellers list high and settle. Across our dataset, real transactions routinely close below the listed price — an offer near the typical sale value is normal negotiation, not a lowball. Price guides built on asking prices systematically overstate what guitars are worth; ours is built on what buyers actually paid.
