Gibson Guitar Market Index
Track used Gibson electric guitar prices and vintage Gibson market movement across Les Paul, SG, ES, Firebird, Flying V, Explorer, and other major Gibson electric families. Indexes start at 1000 in January 2015.
What this measures
The Gibson modern index tracks used Gibson electrics made after 2000 and updates monthly. The Gibson vintage index tracks pre-1980 Gibson electrics and updates quarterly because older instruments trade less often. Vintage results are grouped by recognized eras — golden-era Les Pauls, dot-neck ES guitars, Norlin SGs, and the rest — so a 1959 Les Paul isn't averaged with a 1977. Acoustics and basses are excluded.

The Gibson Vintage Index focuses on pre-1980 Gibson electrics and separates the market into intuitive eras: goldtop and golden-era Les Pauls, reintroduced late-60s Les Pauls, early SGs, dot-neck and early-60s ES guitars, Firebirds, and Norlin-era instruments.
It deliberately excludes acoustics and basses from this public index so the signal reflects comparable electric-guitar demand. As with any vintage Gibson, originality, finish, repairs, breaks, and provenance can matter more than the broad market move for a single instrument.
