This page covers the entire vintage Stratocaster market, from the first 1954 guitars through pre-2000 examples, so it is really a survey of multiple eras rather than one stable spec. The big dividing lines are early pre-CBS guitars, the CBS-era changes of the late 1960s and 1970s, and the much more affordable 1980s and 1990s instruments, each with very different buyer pools and price ceilings. On the used market, era, originality and finish history do most of the work, with custom colors, untouched solder joints and original cases pushing prices up fast while refinishes, changed pickups or replacement necks pull them back toward player grade. Buyers should compare by era first and median price second, because a 1957 Strat and a 1996 Strat live in completely different markets.
