The Jim Root Jazzmaster is a purpose-built metal and hard-rock interpretation of the shape, not a Jazzmaster for players who care about surf-era accuracy. A stripped control layout, humbucker-driven electronics, hardtail-minded stability and dark, minimal cosmetics are the defining traits, and they move it decisively away from the rest of the Jazzmaster family. On the used market, pickup originality and overall cleanliness carry more weight than color because most buyers are specifically hunting the Root formula, not just any black offset. It is one of the clearest examples of the Jazzmaster body being repurposed for a totally different player.
