How this estimator works
We train a gradient-boosted model (XGBoost, quantile regression) on 30,190 verified sales collected from Reverb, dealers, and auction houses between 2015 and 2026. The model predicts the 25th, 50th, and 75th percentile of sale price from dozens of signals extracted from each listing.
On held-out sales the median estimate lands within 17.6% of the true price on average, and the typical range is calibrated — roughly half of real sales fall inside it, by construction. Estimates for rare combinations lean on the model rather than direct comparables; the comp count shown under each estimate tells you which regime you're in.
Unlike the Fender Custom Shop estimator, Gibson doesn't publish structured spec data for its Custom Shop listings — every field here (reissue spec, aging tier, Brazilian board, provenance) is read directly from listing titles and descriptions using pattern matching, the same way a knowledgeable buyer would.
Below: SHAP values for the model — how much each feature moves the price prediction, per listing, across a 10,000-sale sample. Condition, sale year, and aging tier do most of the work, with Brazilian rosewood, Collector's Choice, and named provenance driving the largest individual premiums.
Sale prices are verified transaction data, not asking prices. Grid predictions are evaluated at a reference configuration; secondary adjustments are applied client-side. Nothing you type here is stored.

What is a Gibson Murphy Lab Les Paul worth used?
Murphy Lab '59 Les Paul Standard reissues typically sell used in the $5,500-7,000 range, with heavier aging tiers toward the top of that band — they list higher new, and the used market preserves the gap. VOS (unaged) Historic reissues run somewhat less, and pieces personally signed or aged by Tom Murphy himself are the rarest tier and price above the whole ladder.
What's the difference between VOS and Murphy Lab?
VOS ("Vintage Original Spec") is a light hand-rubbed satin treatment with no wear — the guitar looks new-but-not-glossy. Murphy Lab is Gibson's dedicated aging shop, which distresses finishes in four tiers from Ultra Light to Ultra Heavy checking and wear. In the used market the Murphy Lab tiers sell above equivalent VOS guitars.
Which reissue spec is worth the most — R7, R8, R9, or R0?
The '59 spec (R9) is the flagship recipe and typically the most expensive, followed closely by the '58 (R8) and '60 (R0); Goldtop-era specs (R4, R6, R7) generally trade somewhat lower. The gaps are real but modest compared to condition and options — a Brazilian rosewood board or Collector's Choice designation moves price more than one spec-year step.
Is a Gibson Custom Shop reissue a good investment compared to a real vintage Gibson?
They're different markets. Custom Shop reissues trade like premium used instruments — fairly stable, modest appreciation on desirable runs. Genuine 1950s-60s Gibsons are collectibles whose top end (Bursts, korina-era pieces) has appreciated dramatically but requires authentication and specialist buying.
