The SG Custom is the SG trying on formal clothes, and it works best when it leans into that role without apology. Buyers come for the prestige version of the double-cut idea, not for a cheaper alternative to a Les Paul Custom. Because the model sells on appearance almost as much as sound, missing hardware, finish damage and muddled provenance hurt more than they do on a Standard.
