The Ed O'Brien Stratocaster is a signature designed around ambient and textural playing rather than around conventional vintage-Strat hero worship. The Fernandes sustainer system, artist-specific pickup complement and modern hardware choices are the important details, because they make the instrument function differently from almost every other Fender production Strat. On the used market, originality is critical, especially around the sustainer electronics, since any missing or altered parts undercut the reason buyers look for this model. It is a niche tool, but for the right player it offers something no standard Strat really substitutes for.
