Fender American Special Jazzmaster
Aftermarket Price History
Used-market sales only. Brand New listings excluded.
The American Special Jazzmaster was Fender's stripped-back U.S. offset for players who wanted domestic build quality at a lower price than the main American lines. Its defining traits are the simplified, more aggressive spec choices Fender used in this series, which typically pushed the guitar away from strict vintage correctness and toward modern rock utility. On the used market, the biggest price drivers are originality, case inclusion and whether the guitar still reflects the factory American Special recipe rather than later experimentation. It appeals to players who want a U.S.-made Jazzmaster without paying reissue money, and the cleanest stock examples usually make the most sense.

Market Report
Used examples typically trade between $850 and $1,250; anything under $850 is worth a close look. Some price variation month to month, but within a normal range.
This model rarely comes to market at ~3/month. When one does appear, expect less room to negotiate on price.
Condition has a moderate effect on price (~17% spread from clean to worn). Player-grade examples represent reasonable value.
Related models
The current U.S. value-tier Jazzmaster at a similar price: Yosemite pickups and a more updated spec than the older Special.
Full U.S. working-player step up: Panorama trem and V-Mod II pickups — worth the jump if the Am Special feels underpowered.
Vintage-spec Mexican alternative at a similar price: traditional switching and hardware for buyers who prefer that direction.
