The American Special Jazzmaster was Fender's stripped-back U.S. offset for players who wanted domestic build quality at a lower price than the main American lines. Its defining traits are the simplified, more aggressive spec choices Fender used in this series, which typically pushed the guitar away from strict vintage correctness and toward modern rock utility. On the used market, the biggest price drivers are originality, case inclusion and whether the guitar still reflects the factory American Special recipe rather than later experimentation. It appeals to players who want a U.S.-made Jazzmaster without paying reissue money, and the cleanest stock examples usually make the most sense.

The American Special (discontinued ~2018) occupied a now-gone tier in the lineup. $1100–$1475 is where the market has settled — a premium over the MIM models, a discount from the AmPro II. Pricing has stabilized.
Worth buying in the $1100–$1200 range as supply slowly tightens over time. Sellers have modest pricing leverage as a popular discontinued model, but don't expect vintage-level appreciation.
